Ponta do Sol
The aim of the residency is to bring expert practitioners and practising sound artists, composers and performers from varied backgrounds together to create and experience new work in a supportive and stimulating environment.
Estalagem will be hosting the third Estalagem da Ponta do Sol Residency for Contemporary Music and Electronics from 4th – 14th January 2018 in Ponta do Sol, on the Island of Madeira.
Under the guidance of the Invited Artists, participants have the opportunity to work collaboratively, to present work (or prepared repertoire), to attend masterclasses, concerts and talks, in the stunning environment of Ponta do Sol, with accommodation and meals provided by Estalgem da Ponta do Sol. During the course of the residency there will be performances by the Invited Artists (including contemporary acoustic music as well as works with live electronics). Composers and performers are welcome to present their own work collaboratively and individually during the residency, as well as in more informal settings.
The residency is pleased to announce that the invited artists attending this year are composer and sound artist Patricia Alessandrini (Goldsmiths, University of London); flautist Richard Craig (Bangor University/University of Huddersfield/SMASH); solo violinist and chamber interpreter of modern music, Karin Hellqvist (Oslo Sinfonietta/Curious Chamber Players); flautist Keiko Murakami (Linea Ensemble/oh-ton ensemble); and composer, sound artist, performer and researcher Gilbert Nouno (IRCAM/Goldsmiths/Royal College of Music). They will be joined by guest artist and event co-ordinator Sarah Westwood (Goldsmiths, University of London).
